Peer Observation

New Tutors

New tutors will be observed in their first cluster by an experienced CBL tutor. This observation assures the quality of CBL tutoring in the MD Undergraduate Program, and provides the new tutor with practical feedback, and a formal record for their teaching dossier.

SAMPLE Tutor Observation Record Form

The Observation Record is shared with the program and with the tutor’s Department.

Experienced Tutors

Experienced tutors seeking peer observation for the purpose of promotion or tenure are encouraged to make a request to their local Program Assistant in advance of their assigned cluster.

Observers

  1. Before the tutorial: Introduce yourself to the tutor and group

  2. During the tutorial: Observe the new tutor, with particular attention to:

    • Behaviours of the tutor and students

    • Any incidents

    • Note any atypical characteristics of the group, case or environment that help or hinder the tutor

    • Strengths, weaknesses and areas of improvement for the tutor

  3. After the tutorial: Debrief with the tutor, discuss your observation report

If you are interested in becoming an Observer, please contact your local Program Assistant or Tutor Trainer.
